Thomas Shannon Rile, age 94 of California, PA died peacefully on Saturday, September 20, 2025 during a brief stay at Penn Highlands Mon Valley Hospital.
Thomas was born in South Orange, New Jersey, on December 22, 1930, the son of Joseph and Ellen Rile.
Thomas made his home with his wife, Mary Grace Rile, in Aliquippa, PA for forty-seven years before moving to California, PA to be closer to their children and grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his wife, both parents and three siblings.
Mr. Rile was a 1956 graduate of the Pennsylvania State University with a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering. He also obtained his professional licensure during his tenure at United States Steel. Upon retirement, he established his own consulting company providing his expertise in transmission tower design.
Tom was a volunteer and active member of Center in the Woods for many years.
He was a devout Catholic originally a member of St. Titus Church, Aliquippa, PA and later a member of Catholic churches in the California area.
Thomas is survived by his four children:
Mary Ann Taylor (Sam) of Brownsville, PA, Cathleen Medofer (Albert) of Brownsville, PA, Timothy Rile (Julie) of Murrysville, PA, and James Rile (Heather) of Myrtle Beach, SC.
His grandchildren are Erika Covely (Jeff), Dana Taylor, Jessie Medofer (Michael Cochran), Joanna Medofer, Jonathan Rile, Brendan Rile, and Ethan Rile.
Friends are welcome at the Skirpan Funeral Home 135 Park St. Brownsville, PA on Thursday September 25, 2025 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM when a Blessing Service will be held with the Rev. Fr. Efren Ambre officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Aliquippa, PA. www.skirpanfuneralhome.com
