Sylvia Hill Obituary

Sylvia (McNatt) Hill of Whitehall, formerly of Maxwell, passed away on April 8, 2025 at the age of 96. She was born on July 20, 1928, in Herbert, PA daughter of the late Susan and Charles McNatt. She was the youngest and remaining sibling of her immediate family.

Sylvia met her beloved husband Charles during WWII and married on May 18, 1946. Together they had three children.

In addition to her parents and husband, Sylvia was preceded in death by her loving son, Charles, Jr. and daughter-in-law, Susan (Pivarnik) Hill; daughter-in-law, LuAnn (Furlong) Hill; half-brother, William Holland; sisters, Emma Mowery, Irene McNatt, Mildred Murray, and Madelyn Paes.

Survived are her daughter, Sylvia (Sissy) Boyle of Whitehall, PA where Mom resided the last eight years;  and son, Fred Hill of McKeesport, PA.

In addition, Sylvia had six grandchildren: Ralph (Millie) Willis, Charles (Teresa) Hill, Karen (Kevin) Palmer, Beth (Tim) Quinn, Fred (Nichole) Hill, Jr. and Scott Hill.

Also survived by nine great-grandchildren: Brian Willis, Kalen and Kamden Palmer, Madison, Timmy and Tyler Quinn, Brendan, Alexis and Justin Hill, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Family was important to Sylvia as she was very close to her siblings throughout adulthood and remained close to her nieces and nephews, whom she dearly loved.

She enjoyed baking and preparing big dinners on holidays and birthdays which most times included her extended family. Sylvia liked attending the different social events with her husband, whether it be at LaBelle Fire Hall or a political function. For several years she served as a Democrat committee woman. Her favorite enjoyment was working outdoors in the summer, either planting flowers or hanging clothes. She was especially fond of her daily walks with her friend, Pauline Vince.

Sylvia will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother; and to all who knew her well a wonderful friend.

The family is deeply grateful for the compassionate care and support provided by Commonwealth Hospice during this difficult time. Also, a special “thank you” to her caregiver, Robbin Marks who aided in her care the last several years.

Friends and family will be received at The Skirpan Funeral Home, 135 Park Street, Brownsville, PA 15417 on Friday from 2 – 6 PM, and on Saturday from 10 AM until the Funeral Service at 11 AM. Interment will follow in LaFayette Memorial Park.
