Stanley Bernard “Stush” Sobek, 82, of Rowes Run, PA, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at Uniontown Hospital with his loving daughter and son-in-law by his side.
Born on February 15, 1943, in Rowes Run, Stush was the son of the late Stanley and Nellie (Gancos) Sobek. He proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1961 to 1965. A dedicated and hardworking man, Stush owned and operated Rowes Run Garage since 1966—a place where many friendships were forged and memories created. He took great joy in the time he spent at his garage, surrounded by loyal friends and customers especially his best friends, Bob Zias, Ralph Leichliter, the late Robert “Tuck” Tuckish Sr., and his late son’s best friend, Joe Sebeck Jr.
Stush was a lifelong member of St. Cecilia Roman Catholic Church and a member of the Colonial #3 Athletic Club.
Stush is survived by his beloved daughter, Juliann Braddock, and her husband Alex, of West Brownsville, PA; his sister-in-law, Kathy Carlson; cousin Walter Sobek, and several nieces and nephews who will remember him fondly.
In addition to his parents, Stush was preceded in death by his loving wife, Joyce Ann (Karlyak) Sobek, and his cherished son, Jonathan “Mush” Sobek. He was the last of his siblings, having been preceded in death by Helen, Henry, Walter, Frank, Anna, Pete, Stella, and Ted.
Stush will be remembered for his steady presence, strong work ethic, sense of humor, and the genuine connections he shared with all who knew him. He had a love for the simple pleasures in life—Dairy Queen soft serve, Pizza Wagon pizza, anything sweet, and his daily newspaper. He enjoyed listening to polka music, watching Gunsmoke (especially the black and white episodes), and spending quiet time in familiar routines.
His daughter is especially grateful for the final months they shared together, as Stush spent time in her home with her and her husband, and she was honored to care for him during that meaningful time.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Colonial #3 Athletic Club – Jonathan “Mush” Sobek Memorial Scholarship Fund, in honor of both Stush and his son’s memory.
Friends will be received in The Skirpan Funeral Home 135 Park Street Brownsville, PA on Friday, July 11th from 2-8PM and on Saturday, July 12th until 9:30AM where Transfer Prayers will be held followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00AM at St. Cecilia R.C. Church – Grindstone, PA with the Rev. Fr. Efren Ambre as celebrant. Interment will follow in LaFayette Memorial Park.
