Shirley Louise (Turner) Popiesh, age 83, of Brownsville, PA passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side on Friday March 7, 2025. She was born on September 15, 1941 in Brownsville, daughter of the late William and Louise (Roll) Turner, Sr.
Shirley was a devout Roman Catholic all her life. She was a member of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Brownsville and then The Historic Church of St. Peter after the closing of St. Mary’s. She was also a member of the “Lunch Bunch Crew” of California United Methodist Church.
Shirley was employed at GC Murphy’s in Brownsville and Brownsville Sewing Factory for many years. She was also employed by E.C.H.O. Childcare. She was a member of the Brownsville Fire Co. #1 (North Side Fire Hall) Ladies Aux., Christian Mother’s of St. Mary’s Church, PTO of Brownsville Catholic School for over 10 years.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband Charles Martin Popiesh; brother, William Turner, Jr.; and sister-in-law, Lois Turner.
She is survived by her sister, Patricia Medlock and her husband Larry; three daughters, Tammie Popiesh, Theresa Frisco and husband Richard, and Tara Childs; grandchildren, Jocelynn Frisco, Staci Starr, Rocco and wife Katie Frisco, and Rachel Polando; and great-grandchildren, Blair and Baylee Long.
Shirley loved spending time with her loving family, attending baseball, football, soccer, basketball, and softball games. She never missed an opportunity to cheer on her grandkids and great grandkids playing any sports. No matter the weather, cold or hot, she was always there sitting right behind them. She enjoyed sitting on her porch, reading, feeding the deer and making sure the neighborhood cat always had food, water and shelter. She always enjoyed parties at her daughter’s house, all holidays, and especially attending fireworks for the 4th of July. She will be missed greatly by all that knew her, including nieces and nephews, cousins and extended family.
Family and friends will be received at The Skirpan Funeral Home, 135 Park Street, Brownsville, PA 15417 on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM and on Wednesday until a Prayer Service at 9:30 AM.
