Reverend Dr. Neil Warren Hoppe, Uniontown, PA The Reverend Dr. Neil Warren Hoppe, 81, of Uniontown, PA, lived life with his eyes on Christ, anticipating with excitement and celebration that "he that believes in Christ will never die!" On Monday, August 13, 2012 he was ready and made the transition into eternal life with Christ. Dr. Hoppe spent 57 years in pastoral ministry serving churches in Aurora, IL, Sheboygan, WI, Columbus, OH, Huntington, WV and Uniontown, PA. with his wife, of 59 years, Ann Rankin Mungo Hoppe who survives him along with their four children and families: Dr. Harpreet and Lisa Hoppe Brar (Ashland, OH), Rev. Ron and Sharon Hoppe McClung (South Charleston, WV), John and Pam Landacre (Huntington, WV), and Rev. Scott and Jackie Hoppe (Uniontown, PA). He has also nurtured eleven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Born in Dalton, Wisconsin on June 12, 1931, Dr. Hoppe felt his call to ministry at the age of 5 years old. He was preceded in death by his mother, Eunice Noble Hoppe and his father, Lloyd Jacob Hoppe and is survived by his brother, Lee and Sunday Hoppe (Baraboo, WI) and sister, Sharon Nielson. (Bradenton, FL). Still an active member of Great Bethel Baptist, his duties included Minister of Visitation, teacher and choir member. He had the honor and blessing of serving with his son, Rev. Scott Hoppe who became senior pastor of Great Bethel Baptist Church in 2010. Dr. Hoppe took his ministry into every part of life whether walking at the Uniontown Mall or serving on the General Board of the American Baptist Churches, USA. He had a special calling to hospital ministry, serving Cabell Huntington Hospital Board in Huntington, WV for 10 years; at Uniontown Hospital, he was instrumental in establishing the volunteer chaplaincy program. He served actively in the Monongahela Association of American Baptist Churches, ministers and spouse groups and also continued to provide interim pastoral leadership in his semi-retirement to churches in Waynesburg, PA, Kingwood, WV and Uniontown, PA. Dr. Hoppe and Ann met at Bob Jones University, Greenville, SC, where they both completed Bachelor's degrees. He continued his ministerial studies at Northern Theological Seminary, Chicago, IL and Luther Rice Seminary, Gainesville, FL. Mrs. Hoppe and the family will receive visitors at Skirpan Funeral Home 680 Cherry Tree Lane in Uniontown, PA on Thursday August 16 and Friday August 17 from 2 PM until 4 PM and 6 PM until 8 PM. A visitation will be held at Great Bethel Baptist Church 47 West Fayette St. Uniontown, PA on Saturday, August 18 from 10:00AM until 11:00AM when a service of celebration and memorial will be held with Rev. Scott Hoppe officiating. Interment to follow at OakLawn Cemetery, Uniontown, PA. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Dr. Hoppe's memory to the Great Bethel Baptist Church Dome Restoration Fund 47 West Fayette St. Uniontown, PA 15401.
