Karen Repasy Obituary

Karen Marie Repasy, 64, of Grindstone, PA, died peacefully at Uniontown Hospital ICU on Friday, December 23, 2023, due to complications associated with congestive heart failure. Karen was born in Brownsville, PA on April 18, 1959. She attended Brownsville Catholic School through 8th grade, then attended Redstone Middle School. It was there where she met her wonderful, lifelong friends: Sharon McCune Cibrik, Mary Veres Jaram, Patricia Hall Mobberly, Barbara Novinsky Moskovitz and Paula Soroka. She graduated from Brownsville Area High School in 1977. She was a proud member of Sammy Bill’s award winning BAHS marching band. Karen obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing at The Pennsylvania State University. She loved Penn State, and was an avid Nittany Lion fan all of her life. Karen was a member of the Penn State Choir while in school at University Park. She enjoyed performing in the choir with her longtime friend, Diana Black. After graduating from Penn State in 1980, she started her nursing career at Brownsville General Hospital, where she worked 25 years in the emergency room. The ER team there was her second family, and all could attest to the fact that her patients were her number one priority. After the closing of Brownsville Hospital, Karen worked over ten years at the Uniontown Hospital Emergency Room. She was also an EMT/Paramedic with the Brownsville Ambulance Service, alongside her good friend, Toni Gillis. Karen loved to attend concerts. She saw many great artists over the years, such as Elton John, Cher, Pink, The Rolling Stones and Kiss. She enjoyed all types of music. She loved to attend Pirate baseball games, and loved collecting the Pirate t-shirts and watching the Peroghi races. Karen was an animal lover, and currently had three furry family members, along with many others throughout her life. She liked feeding the wild birds and kept a feeder well stocked for the cardinals and chickadees in her front yard. Karen enjoyed TV and movies, especially Star Trek, Harry Potter, and Xena. She attended many Comicons and Xena conventions with friend, Zelne Zamora, and her other California convention buddies. She even went on a Star Trek cruise with her family and enjoyed sharing her love of the show with her nephew, Brad. Karen was the daughter of the late Joseph B. Repasy, and Helena M. Frampton Repasy, of Brownsville, PA. Her brother- in- law was the late Charles (Chuck) Britvich, of Brownsville. Karen is survived by her sister, Joetta Repasy Britvich, her nephew, Bradley Ryan Britvich, and her fur babies: Pierre, Musette, and Arthur. She will be sadly missed by them, as well as by many cousins and close friends. Karen was a wonderful, intelligent, caring daughter, sister, friend, and nurse. She was generous to her family and friends. Her kindness will be missed by many. Karen’s family wishes to thank the nurses, doctors and staff who gave their all for her during her recent hospitalization at Uniontown Hospital. The kindness shown and spoken was truly remarkable. Many remembered her as an excellent caregiver when she worked there. Family and friends will be received at the Skirpans Funeral Home, 135 Park St, Brownsville, PA from 2 pm to 8 pm on Thursday, December 28th, and Friday December 29th until 9:30am when a prayer service will be held followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 am at The Historic Church of St. Peter with the Rev.
