Frank Stanley Skobel, of Rowes Run, passed away on December 31, 2012, with his family by his side. He was born on July 28, 1925 in Smock, PA. He was the son of the late Fred and Anna Mentus Skobel. A Marine and Veteran of World War II, he fought in the Battle of Iwo Jima. Upon his return, he married Agnes Drozeck. He was the beloved husband of Agnes for 61 years, and a proud father and grandfather. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Mark Skobel and wife Jill, Memphis, TN; Robert Skobel and wife Vicki, Rockwall, TX; Nancy Skobel, Uniontown, PA; Judy Long and husband Bill, West Newton, PA; Christine Polkabla and husband Tom; Smock, PA; Twelve grandchildren: Juli, Steven, Christie and husband Christopher, Frank, Jessica, Isabella, Mia, Zachary, Abigail, Lucas, Sydney and Grace; One sister: Martha Peton, Rowes Run, Pa. He was preceded in death by his brothers John, Stanley and Andrew. He was an active and longtime member of St. Cecilia's Catholic Church. He was a member of the Grindstone Lions Club for 50 years, receiving their highest honor, the Melvin Jones Award, for his service. Family and friends will be received in the Skirpan Funeral Home 135 Park St. Brownsville, PA on Wednesday from 2pm to 9pm. The rosary will be recited Wednesday at 2:30 PM followed by a wake service at 3:00 PM. On Thursday January 3, a prayer service will be held at 11 AM in the funeral home followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:30AM in St. Cecilia's Catholic Church, 571 Grindstone Road, Grindstone, PA 15442 celebrated by Rev. Fr. James Petrovsky . Interment will be following at Lafayette Memorial Cemetery, 132 Twin Hills Rd, Brier Hill, PA with full military rites accorded by AMVETS Post 103. Frank's family would like to thank the wonderful nurses and aides on 4 South at Uniontown Hospital, Donna, his dialysis nurse, and the Fayette Hospice Association for their care and compassion.
