David N. Gaskill

David N. Gaskill, age 86, of West Brownsville, PA passed away peacefully on June 3, 2024 after a prolonged illness.  He was born on December 5, 1937 in Brownsville, PA, son of the late Freeman and Elsie (Lorriman) Gaskill.

A 1954 graduate of Brownsville High School, he received his undergrad degree and Masters in Education at the California University of Pennsylvania. He was a retired Industrial Arts Teacher from the Penn Hills High School where he taught for 30 years.  He had many leadership roles in his life, including past President positions in the Brownsville Optimist Club and Brownsville Historical Society. He was a proud Eagle Scout and Scoutmaster in Brownsville, positively influencing the lives of many young men.  He was also well known and respected by many in the area as a youth baseball coach for the Brownsville Little League and Senior Little League. Dave was also a co-founder of the Brownsville Table Tennis Club in the 1970s.  He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed cross country skiing and hiking.  Dave loved his hometown of Brownsville and was very active in the community.

Besides his parents, Dave was preceded in death by his brother, John "Jack" Gaskill.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 60 years, Joanne (McIntosh) Gaskill; three sons, David M. Gaskill, Scott B. Gaskill and wife Ruth Swartswelder, and Jeffrey T. and wife Donna Gaskill; grandchildren, Amanda (Ciaran) Downey, Jonathan (Halie) Gaskill, Jacob (Daniella) Cianci-Gaskill, and Grace Gaskill; a great granddaughter, Aoife Downey; sisters, Jean Sly and Cathy Collins; brother-in-law, Wilbur McIntosh; also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at The Skirpan Funeral Home, 135 Park Street, Brownsville, PA 15417 on Friday, June 7, 2024 from 11 AM until the Funeral Service at 1 PM. Interment to follow in Redstone Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association in Dave’s name via their website  www.heart.org.
