Charles L. Hill

Charles L. Hill, age 89, of Maxwell, PA passed away on Wednesday, July 25, 2012 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on November 27, 1922 in Shoaf, PA Son of the late Pete and Anna Hordash-Hill Lapponi In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his dear son Charles, Jr. Daughter-in-law: Susan Hill Brother: James Hill Half-Brother: Theodore Lapponi Infant Sister Charles is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years: Sylvia McNatt Hill Daughter: Sylvia Boyle - Baldwin, PA Son: Fred Hill and wife LuAnn - McKeesport, PA 6 grandchildren: Ralph Willis and wife Millie - Brunswick,OH; Charles Hill and wife Teresa - Cleveland, OH; Karen Palmer and husband Kevin - Jefferson Hills, PA; Beth Quinn and husband Tim - Murrysville, PA; Fred Hill Jr. and wife Sandy - Pleasant Hills, PA; Scott Hill - McKeesport, PA Also survived by 10 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Charles served in the US Army during WW II as a radar operator and was stationed at such places as Germany, Holland, England, and France. He worked as a coal miner for 42 years and was retired from the Gateway Coal Company. Charles was a volunteer fireman and member of The Luzerne Twp. Fire Company for 60 years from 1948 until 2008. Additionally, he was a Democrat Committeeman for 20 years. Charles loved to socialize among friends and family, watch the Pirate and Steeler Games, and he especially loved to play card games and work puzzles. Friends will be received in The Skirpan Funeral Home 135 Park Street Brownsville, PA on Friday, July 27 from 2-4 and 6-9PM and on Saturday until 11:00AM where a Blessing Service will be held with Rev. Fr. Micah E. Kozoil officiating. Interment will follow in LaFayette Memorial Park where full military honors will be accorded at the graveside by American Legion Posts 295, 940, & 838. The Luzerne Twp. Fire Department will hold services on Friday evening at 7:00PM in the funeral home.
