Carl A. Garofalo, Jr. age 76 of Brownsville, PA passed away on Thursday, February 8, 2024 at his home with his loving family by his side.
He was born on October 26, 1947 in Brownsville, PA to the late Dr. Carl A. Garofalo and Linda Yosi Garofalo.
Many knew him as a friend, school teacher or as a Civil War reenactor, but to his family, Carl Garofalo was a cornerstone.
On Thursday, Feb. 8, the man who quietly helped so many over the course of his lifetime, quietly left.
To his wife Connie, Carl was a partner who walked alongside her through 51 loving years.
To his children, Anne, Michael and Steven, Carl was more than just “dad,” he was a mentor, a protector and a supporter of all they did.
And to his grandchildren, Papa Carl was pure magic.
A longtime teacher in Brownsville Area School District, Carl taught many kids, including his own children and grandchildren, the importance of history. He made it fun to learn, taking students on field trips to do living history reenactments. His enthusiasm for it was boundless, and there are many students who continued on with it even after they left his classroom.
Throughout his life, Carl gave his time to many people and organizations. If someone needed something – no matter the time – Carl was there, prepared to lend a hand.
But, his truest joy was found in his family.
Carl lit up during holidays or family dinners when his children, grandchildren and extended family were all able to gather together. He held court at the table, listening to their stories and regaling everyone with his.
It was certainly his dedication to his family that fortified him after he was diagnosed with multiple system atrophy, a rare degenerative neurological disorder.
While Carl’s condition slowly hampered his mobility and his speech, he remained engaged with what everyone had going on.
He never stopped welcoming visitors, and he most certainly never stopped laughing. Carl had a big laugh, one that made you smile from a room away even if you didn’t hear the joke. Those who knew him can probably hear that laugh right now.
The world will be a bit less boisterous without him in it, but, those who knew him are all certainly better for it.
Carl is survived by his wife, Connie Gnus Garofalo,
children, Anne Koval and husband Charlie,
Michael Garofalo and wife Jennifer,
Steven Garofalo and Jessica Dicicco;
Jeremy Huseman and wife Emily
seven grandchildren, Gabriel, Ryan, Wesley, Vincent, Aiden, Joseph, Josephine;
brothers, Dr. William Garofalo,
Dr. James Garofalo and wife Andoria,
Dr. Thomas Garofalo.
Friends will be received in the Skirpan Funeral Home, 135 Park St., Brownsville, PA on Tuesday, February 13 from 1:00 PM until 6:00 PM when a Blessing Service will be held with the Rev. Fr. Efren Ambre officiating. Interment will be private.
